This Museum is a cultural initiative that contributes to the preservation of the history of the Emirati women. As the founder of the museum Dr. Rafia Ghubash said that this museum is the “people’s museum”, because most of the items on display were given to her, therefore the people contributed to the creation of the museum.
The museum has a wide variety of galleries each with different purposes. The first one is the hall that contains all of the historical items that were collected. The second gallery is the most famous of all galleries, which is “Diwan Ousha bint Khalifa Al Suwaidi Room”, it displays the poetry of one of the most gifted women in the UAE through the beautifully designed interiors and images and sound. There is also the “Women’s Study Center” which is both a research center and library that contains books about or written by women.
There are two other galleries in the museum dedicated to the art works of local women, and artworks related to Sheikh Zayed. The founder of the museum enjoys art and therefore dedicated two galleries for it, she encourages the local artists’ talents by displaying their works temporarily. There is also a collection of permanent artworks done by well known Emirati artists including Lateefa Bint Maktoum and Maitha Bin Demithan. It also displays the work of some young women artists who are at the beginning of their art career (that includes my painting too), and it welcomes young artists with open arms because the museum is based on voluntary work (all the people who work in the museum are volunteers).
I believe that working at the Women’s Museum could be a great experience, especially for young Emirati women artists who want to do some voluntary work and gain more knowledge about the outside world at the same time.
