It’s spring semester and as a student who is going to go for internship soon…well, IT TS THE RIGHT TIME TO PANIC. (not really) Have no fear juniors!

This entry is going to talk about how you can build your own portfolio, as well as a few shortcuts and websites that would help in putting your work out there in the world.

First things first, what is a portfolio? It is a collection of your work in a booklet, whether it is a series of photographs or sculptures, any work that you are proud of calling your best work is placed in this book.

There are many programs you could use to assemble this portfolio but your best choice would be Adobe InDesign, tutorials on how to use this program are available on youtube. Start by gathering all of your work, scan or take photographs of your work but don’t forget that quality is key, so Drawings and other works that are on paper would be higher in quality if they are scanned.

Once you have gathered your content, start by planning out how the book is going to look like. Things you should think about when planning are:

-Content

-design elements

-narrative elements(tell your own story through your work)

-Labels and descriptions

After you have planned your work start off by placing everything on InDesign

This is an example from my portfolio (quick tip: contrasting the tones of the labels makes it easier to read which is which)

Once you’ve got all of your work together you can go ahead and follow he instructions for exporting and saving your work. You can now print your work!

Here are some sites that you can use to display your portfolio and work:

ISSUU:

A site that helps you create a “flipbook” for your portfolio

Here are some steps to help you with the site.

it is quite simple to use and only requires you to to sign up, it has all the templates and very easy to follow steps.

Lastly, this is a more professional website known as Behance, although this site requires you to have an Adobe ID account, but if you wish to have a more professional online portfolio, that is your best shot and it is fairly easy to use aswell.
