What is the key to being professional?

Preparation is the key to success. Besides preparation there is a pre requisite of experience too in the area of interviews, One cannot simply walk into an interview and hope to get a job on the fly, except of course in cases of having the gift of the gab. What makes us look professional, how do we convince the interviewee that we are what the company needs?

Putting aside credentials and so on, what is it that makes us stand out? Is it our confidence, maybe the way we hold ourselves, or maybe just the way we look.

Well in all honesty its all of the above, however as mentioned earlier a little experience from attending interviews will always give you a heads up on what to expect. Never be surprised by information that is given to you during an interview, you should be knowledgeable and above all ready. Of course we cannot be snobby and a know it all, no one likes a know it all unless its your field. In which case by all means go for it, but in interviews it is not advised.

Recon, You should know the company you are interested in. whatever it is you can hold on to, company story, Developments, future projects, company background and so on. The more information you can get your hands and save in your head the more interested and professional you can appear. This doesn’t mean you walk in and overwhelm the interviewee with a lot of information they are already familiar, regurgitated information isn’t interesting, unless you know what its about and how to make it interesting. And even then, take it easy. Just be prepared, know what it is you are interested and how to go for it. Don’t let the interviewee push you around, and don’t push too hard you don’t want to look desperate.
